Private swim lessons
Back for 2027
One on one, about 30 minutes. Nervous swimmers start slow and get comfortable first. Swimmers who already know the basics work on their strokes and build from there.
We start as young as 12 months. For swimmers 12 months to 2 years, a parent stays in the water with us until they're ready for the handoff to their coach.
Advanced coaching
Open for high school swimmers
For swimmers ready to refine their strokes, drop time, and understand the science behind how they train. Sessions focus on technique, race skills, and training structure, with clear work to carry into practice between sessions.
We also help swimmers make the jump to the next level, whether that's moving from middle school to a high school team or from high school into a college program. That includes the recruiting side: putting together times and video, reaching out to college coaches, and knowing what programs look for.
Collegiate and masters
Open now
Individual training for collegiate and masters swimmers who want focused technical work alongside their team training. Stroke analysis, race strategy, and event-specific preparation, all built around your season and practice schedule.
For recruits and transfers, we help you market yourself to college programs, from how you present your times and video to how you approach coaches.
Adult lessons
Back for 2027
Private lessons for adults at any level, whether you're learning for the first time, building comfort in the water, or returning after time away. Everything moves at your pace.
Season and dates
We're closed for 2026 except for high school, college, and masters swimmers. If that's you, send us an email and we'll set something up.
Private lessons, adult lessons, and coaching for younger swimmers come back in 2027. Dates will go up here. Reach out now and we'll let you know when spots open.
About
Who you'll be working with
You'll be working with Coach AJ. AJ swam all the way through college at the Division I level and has been coaching since high school. In six years he's coached at every level, from babies in their first lessons to collegiate and Olympic athletes.
He's a multi-sport athlete who coaches across several disciplines, and he's currently a student at the University of Alabama.
Every kind of swimmer
We go at your child's pace. We start wherever they are, celebrate the small wins, and keep adjusting as they grow. If getting their ears wet is the big win this week, we celebrate that.
Swimming does a lot more than build muscle. In the water, kids learn to focus, follow directions, trust someone new, and be proud of themselves. We care about all of that, and we're developing kids socially and cognitively as well as physically.
We have extensive experience working with kids with autism, sensory processing differences, and other special needs. Tell us what works for your child, what doesn't, and what's helped before, and we'll build around it.
Why Wellspring
A wellspring is a spring, the spot where water comes up out of the ground and starts a river.
The Comal and the San Marcos both start that way, fed by the Edwards Aquifer, a short drive from where we coach. Everything downstream begins at that one spot.
That's why we chose the name. We want Wellspring to be the start of something for every swimmer: a passion, a love for the water, and the confidence that comes with it. Being able to enjoy the water is a gift, and we want to help pass it on. From there, it's about getting a little better each time you get in, and that part never really ends.
How we coach
Every kid is different, so every plan is different. A nervous four year old and a high school sprinter don't need the same lesson, and they won't get one. We work around your schedule and your location, and we keep our rates affordable.
Our curriculum is based on how kids actually learn and how swimming actually works, and it's been tested over six years of coaching.
Safety and families
Water safety comes first. With pools in every neighborhood and the rivers and Canyon Lake close by, there's a lot of water around here, and kids need to know what to do in it. We'll also keep you in the loop on what your swimmer is working on and what to practice, so you're part of it too.
What we want is simple. More kids around here who are safe in the water and actually enjoy being in it.
Questions
The things families ask us most. Don't see yours? Just ask.
Are you taking new swimmers right now?
For 2026, only high school, college, and masters swimmers. Everything else comes back in 2027. Send us a message and we'll reach out when spots open.
We don't have a pool. Can we still do lessons?
Yes. A lot of families use their neighborhood or community pool. If that doesn't work for you, ask and we'll figure something out.
My child is scared of the water. Is that okay?
Completely okay, and really common. We go at their pace and never force anything. Getting comfortable is the first goal, and everything else comes after that.
Do I need to get in the water with my child?
For little ones, yes, as long as they need you. A lot of babies and toddlers aren't ready to go straight to someone new, so a parent gets in with us until your child is comfortable with the handoff. Every kid gets there on their own time.
Can I stay and watch?
You have to. A parent or guardian stays at the pool for every lesson. It also means you see exactly what your swimmer is working on.
What days and times do you coach?
Monday through Saturday. We're closed on Sundays. Mornings are the most flexible and have the most openings. Afternoons and evenings vary week to week, so ask and we'll see what's open.
Is there a travel fee?
No. Travel is already built into the price, so the rate is the same wherever you are on our list.
What happens if it rains or storms?
Rain is honestly one of the best feelings in the pool, so if you're game, we're game. Lightning is different. We keep an eye on the weather, and if there's lightning nearby we get out of the water and wait at least 30 minutes after the last strike or thunder. If it doesn't clear up, we'll unfortunately have to cancel that lesson.
What does the first lesson look like?
The first one is mostly about getting to know your swimmer. We see where they're comfortable, what they can already do, and what they need to work on, then build the plan from there.
I have more than one kid. How does that work?
Each swimmer gets their own 30 minute lesson at $35. We can line them up back to back so it's one trip for you.
What should we bring?
A swimsuit, a towel, and goggles if your swimmer likes them. Sunscreen too if the pool is outdoors.
How long are lessons, and how often?
Private lessons are about 30 minutes. Most families do once or twice a week. Showing up consistently matters more than anything else.
How much does it cost?
Private lessons for kids and adults are $35 per swimmer for 30 minutes. In a group class, kids spend a lot of the lesson sitting on the wall waiting for their turn. One on one, they're swimming the whole time, so you get way more out of every lesson at a price that stays competitive.
How does pricing work for advanced and collegiate coaching?
These are priced on their own. Every swimmer's goals and training load are different, so we'll sit down, figure out what you need, and set a plan and price together.
Who do you work with?
Babies starting at 12 months, kids who are brand new to the water, kids who already swim and want to get better, kids with special needs, high school, college, and masters swimmers, and adults. Tell us about your swimmer and we'll figure out the right fit.
